Abstract: The first annual Nature Medicine conference, The Art of Antisense, was held 21-22 September in New Orleans, Louisiana. In the following commentaries, Richard Wagner of Gilead Sciences and C.A. Stein of Columbia University, the conference co-organizers, discuss the new data presented at the meeting and consider the promise and shortcomings of the field of antisense.
